At The Juicer’s Friend, we regularly use coconut oil in our smoothies and juices as well as a moisturizer for our skin. It has amazing antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and interestingly, even though it is a fat, coconut oil can help with weight loss. Here’s a nice take on how to use coconut oil in juices for that purpose.
…Coconut oil has many benefits to being consumed, including being antibacterial and anti-fungal which can kill off infections in the body. It contains medium chain triglycerides, which are different from our normal diet of long chain fatty acids and is metabolized differently in the body.
This compound has been proven to hold therapeutic effects on several brain disorders, including epilepsy and Alzheimer’s.
These medium chain fatty acids have also been studied in relation to our energy and have been concluded to increase energy expenditure by 5%, leading to significant long term weight loss.
Eating coconut oil can also help make you feel full longer, so you reduce the amount of food you consume throughout the day
So How Do We Add Coconut Oil to Our Drinks?
Try out coconut oil and watch the many benefits take place. There are many other uses for coconut oil, but drinking it in your morning juice or coffee can help kick start your day.
Unfortunately, coconut oil is still oil; it doesn’t quite sit right in our drinks. It might be hard for first timers to use, but that hasn’t stopped people from trying out the delicious superfood! There are certain tricks you can use to help incorporate the oil into your drinks and make it super easy to use.
Coconut Oil for Cold Drinks
Coconut oil works best blended into thick cold drinks. Simply warm and melt down the desired amount of coconut oil to use in the drink and pour it in slowly as it’s blending. I’ve discovered that using an avocado in your green juices works amazing to thicken it up!
Avocado Greens with Coconut Oil
- ½ pineapple, cubed
- 6 kale leaves
- 1 pear
- 1 cup broccoli
- 1 handful spinach
- 1 cucumber
- 4 celery stalks
- 1 inch piece ginger
- 1 avocado
- 1 tbsp coconut oil, melted
Add everything except the avocado and coconut oil to your juicer. Once juiced, add to a blender. Place avocado into blender and blend briefly. Slowly add coconut oil while it is still blending (or add periodically if you need to stop your blender). Blend until smooth.
Coconut Oil for Hot Drinks
Again, coconut oil works best in something thick. But if you’re looking to drink some tea before bed, coconut oil can also be incorporated by mixing it with honey first. This helps it to melt and mix into the drink better so you can avoid large clumps in your drink.
Lemon Tea with Coconut Oil
- 1 tsp raw honey
- 1-3 tsp coconut oil
- ½ lemon, juiced
- 1 bag green tea (or loose leaf)
- Hot water
Mix together honey and coconut oil in a mug. Add tea, water, and lemon juice. Steep until desired strength is reached.
You may experience clumping, but simply continue mixing tea to avoid.
